科学ネタはどこにでもある。 『 不運の方程式 』 はツイてないサラリーマンの一日を題材に、３８の雑学を展開する本だ。電子レンジを爆発させ、鳥のフンを浴び、鞄を忘れ、ガムを踏んづけ、靴を壊し、会議に遅刻し、コンピュータ・ウイルスをまき散らしたり風呂場で滑ったりと、とにかく散々な目に会う主人公の一日の出来事を枕にして、様々な蘊蓄が語られる。
身近な出来事を科学の見方と知識で深堀りする、言ってしまえば雑学本なのだが内容は意外と深い。またテキストが軽快かつユーモラスなので、一気に楽しく読めた。著者は常に「どうしてそうなったんだろう」と考えることを読者に勧めている。あるいは本書を通じていわゆる理系の思考の癖を覗いてみることもできるかもしれない。
