現在の35歳世代は、10年前の35歳世代よりも平均年収が200万円も低い。NHKスペシャルを書籍化した本書はこの衝撃の事実から始まる。
大失業時代、人材流動化時代に突入した日本に生きる、およそ200万人の35歳たち。これからの日本の活力を担い、20年後の日本を左右する彼らはいま厳しい状況に置かれている。働きたくても働けず、転職を繰り返した結果、収入はどんどん減っていく。収入がないため結婚もできない。未来に希望がまったく持てない。就労環境の悪化や賃金の伸び悩みはゼロ成長率ゼロに繋がりかねない。
本書に収録された暗澹たる状況は、どこかに住む「彼ら」ではなく、まさに「我々」自身の問題だ。そして残念ながら処方箋は限られている。本書でも提言部分はごくごくわずかで、即効性はなさそうだ。
