地球温暖化が事実で、これからも温暖化が進むとしよう。では温暖化したらどうなるのか？ 戦争が起こるのだと本書は主張する。そして最終的には大絶滅がおきるという。もちろん人間も一緒に、だ。人類は今や立ち枯れ同然だと著者は警告している。
地球温暖化の議論において、科学的判断の是非や国際間の折衝が話題になることは少なくない。だが、国際関係が具体的にどう変化するのかについては、あまり触れられない。気候変動の専門家は、政治的、人口学的、戦略的影響については言及しないからだ。そういう意味で、本書は稀有な一冊である。著者によれば、温暖化問題は既に軍事的課題となっているという。
この本では、2019年のロシア、2029年のアメリカ、北インドの2036年、2042年の中国、そして1990年比で2.8度も気温が上昇した2045年の地球の姿をシナリオとして描き出す。温暖化によって気象が変化し、人が大量に国境を越えて移住し、飢饉に苦しみ、戦争で疲弊した未来だ。温暖化ガス削減が各国で進められることは間違いないが手遅れだと ...
