▼東大へ。「 UTalk：何故、ウナギの卵は2000年間見つからなかったのか 」で、ウナギの卵を発見した塚本勝巳教授の話をカフェで伺った。話のあらましはだいたい今まで報じられているとおりだったが、塚本先生の話、ウナギの謎の話は、たいへん面白かった。黒潮のなかでウナギが見つかってないのはほんとに不思議だ。
▼日経BP 「うなぎの赤ちゃん」生態つかんだ！ 完全養殖への道に光、受精卵を南の島で発見 話の内容そのものはこちらでライターの山田久美さんがまとめているのと、当たり前だが、だいたい同じ。
▼ウナギ面白いなと思ったら、ついでに私の 「サイエンス・メール」の青山潤先生の回 も合わせて読んでもらえると嬉しい。青山先生が「真面目な話は塚本先生に任せる」と言っていた意味が良く分かった。
▼いっぽう、UTalkの運営そのものについては「？」なところが少々。料金を払ったので「領収書をくれ」といったところ、学生さん曰く、今まで一度も領収書を出したことがなく、「上の人の意見」を聞かなくてはならない、という。カネを取るイベントで領収書も切ってないとは、経理処理や会計報告は一体どうしているのやら。だいたい「上 ...

▼AFP ニュートリノの速度は光の速度より速い、相対性理論と矛盾 CERN
実験では、スイスの欧州合同原子核研究機構（European Centre for Nuclear Research、CERN）から730キロ先にあるイタリアのグランサッソ国立研究所（Gran Sasso Laboratory）へ、数十億のニュートリノ粒子を発射。光の到達時間は2.3ミリ秒だったが、ニュートリノの到達はそれよりも60ナノ秒ほど早かった（誤差は10ナノ秒以下）。ニュートリノの速度は毎秒30万6キロで、光速より毎秒6キロ速いことになる。
OPERAのスポークスマンを務める物理学者のアントニオ・エレディタート（Antonio Ereditato）氏は、「ニュートリノの速さを知るための実験だったが、このような結果が得られるとは」と、本人も驚きを隠せない様子。発表に至るまでには、約6か月をかけて再検証や再テストなどを行ったという。
研究者らはなお今回の結果には慎重で、世界中の物理学者らに精査してもらおうと、同日ウェブサイト上に全データを公開することにした。結果が確認されれば、物理学における理解が根本から覆さ ...
