スウェーデンのカロリンスカ医科大は３日、今年のノーベル医学生理学賞を、米スクリプス研究所のブルース・ボイトラー教授、フランス分子細胞生物学研究所のジュール・ホフマン所長、米ロックフェラー大のラルフ・スタインマン教授に贈ると発表した。
ボイトラー教授とホフマン所長は、生物が生まれながらに持っている「自然免疫」の仕組みを解明。スタインマンは、生まれた後に様々な病原体にさらされてから作られる「獲得免疫」で重要な役割を果たす「樹状細胞」を発見した。
