愛媛大学無細胞生命科学工学研究センター（CSTRC）センター長を務める遠藤弥重太教授は2012年2月10日17時から、最終講義を愛媛大の南加記念ホールで行った。講義の題目は「はたとせのうるわしの実の水仙花それがどうしたそしてどうする」。2012年3月末で定年退官を迎える遠藤教授は、徳島県阿南市の出身で大学は徳島大学で博士課程まで修了した（一部、新潟大学で研究）。その後、米Chicago University生命科学研究センター、山梨医科大学（現、山梨大学）医学部を経て92年から愛媛大に教授として赴任した。愛媛大における赴任期間は20年。題目の“はたとせ”に相当する。3月16日には18時から「遠藤先生を囲む会」が愛媛大の社会連携推進機構の研修室で開催される。

キッコーマンは、グループ会社である日本デルモンテと共同で、トマト種子に含まれるサポニンの一種であるトマトシドAが、コレステロールの上昇を抑制する作用を発揮するのは、コレステロール吸収阻害と代謝促進が複合的に作用していることを見いだした。2012年3月22日から26日に京都市で開催される日本農芸化学会2012年度大会で発表する。

科学技術振興機構（JST）は2012年3月13日、JST研究成果最適展開支援事業（A-STEP）の研究開発成果を事業展開するベンチャー企業、ナールスコーポレーション（京都市、松本和男代表取締役）が3月2日に設立されたことを発表した。JSTが09年12月にA-STEP本格研究開発ステージ起業挑戦タイプで採択して京都大学に委託した研究課題「新規γグルタミルトランスペプチダーゼ（GGT）阻害剤によって引き起こされる細胞内コラーゲン産生の応用」（開発代表者：平竹潤・京都大学化学研究所教授、起業家：松本和男）で開発してきた成果を事業展開する。
