オミックスは、遺伝子の発現、たんぱく質の構造解析・立体構造決定、一塩基多型（SNP）の同定、細胞内の全代謝物質の網羅的解析等、個々の網羅的分子情報の基礎研究から、種々の分子情報の差異と共通性に基づいて全体性において把握し、新薬の開発等に役立てようとする学問である。京都大学、ナノバイオ医薬創成科学教室の土屋創建助教は、食道扁平上皮がんにおけるオミックス創薬研究の成果を、2012年3月14日から16日まで京都で開催された、第85回日本薬理学会のシンポジウムにおいて発表した。

2012年3月14日から京都で開催された第85回日本薬理学会年会において、九州大学病院薬剤部の大石了三教授が、既存の薬剤の中から、他の薬剤によって引き起こされる副作用を低減できる有効な薬剤を探し出す方法とその実用例を紹介した。大石教授はこの様な手法を「エコファーマ」と呼び、医薬品の副作用を低減できる有益な手法の1つであるとして、今後の活用を提案した。

科学技術振興機構（JST）は2012年3月16日、東北大学に委託している研究開発課題「オン・ディマンド型の蛋白質絶対定量キットの開発」（開発代表者：寺崎哲也・東北大学大学院薬学研究科教授、起業家：堀江透・プロテオメディックスフロンティアーズ代表取締役）にて、質量分析装置（MS）を用いて複数のたんぱく質の絶対発現量を同時に測定できる定量法の技術を開発したと発表した。研究開発期間は08年から2013年で、側面支援機関はエービー・サイエックス（千葉明広代表取締役）だ。
