アステラス製薬は2011年度から、公募サイト「a3／エーキューブ」（astellas aspiring allianceの3つ「a」の頭文字）」を開始した。もちろん、同社が塩野義製薬のFINDSを有用なシステムと評価した結果でもある。同社の研究本部研究推進部戦略的提携担当である柴崎雅之部長は「1年間の準備期間を設けた。塩野義製薬にも足を運び、多くのことを学んだ」と語っている。

米Texas Heart Instituteの研究者らは、慢性虚血性心疾患患者を対象疾患とした自家骨髄単核(BMC) 細胞のフェーズII臨床試験で、統計上有意な差異が示されなかったと発表した。研究成果は、米国心臓学会議（ACC）年次大会にあわせて、JAMA誌のオンライン版に掲載された。

立教大学理学部の望月祐志教授、みずほ情報総研の福澤薫チーフコンサルタントらは、コンピューターを用いて医薬品候補化合物とたんぱく質の相互作用を高解像度に解析する手法を開発し、海洋研究開発機構のスーパーコンピューター「地球シミュレータ」を用いて高速計算することに成功した。神奈川県横浜市の慶応義塾大学で開催中の日本化学会で2012年3月27日に発表する。同研究チームは、東京大学生産技術研究所のプロジェクト「イノベーション基盤シミュレーションソフトウェアの研究開発」の一環で、フラグメント分子軌道（FMO）法計算システム「ABINIT-MP/BioStation」の開発を担当している。
