American Petroleum Institute（API：米石油協会）は2012年5月16日、APIや自動車製造企業によって支援されている米Coordinating Research Council（CRC：研究調整評議会）が実施したテスト結果によれば、ガソリンにエタノールを15%混合したE15ガソリンは乗用車やトラックのエンジンを破損する可能性があり、その潜在的な影響は何百万台の乗用車やトラックに及ぶかもしれないと報道陣に語った。
