フランスHorphag Research社のフランス海岸松樹皮抽出物「ピクノジェノール」が、男性不妊治療に役立ちうることを、独協医科大学越谷病院泌尿器科の岡田弘医師らが見いだし、2012年6月末に神戸市で開かれた第31回日本アンドロロジー学会学術大会で発表した。ピクノジェノールとアルギニンを男性不妊患者に投与したところ、造精能（精子を製造する能力）とIIEF（国際勃起機能スコア）が改善した。「ピクノジェノールは今後、不妊治療に貢献する可能性のある成分として、従来の美容・健康を超え、医療分野での製品化が期待される」と、ピクノジェノールの日本国内販売代理店を務めるDKSHジャパンが8月1日付のプレスリリースに記載している。
