iPS細胞の山中伸弥氏がノーベル生理学・医学賞を受賞

Tweet ▼ノーベル生理学・医学賞が発表に。京都大学教授の山中伸弥氏が、イギリス・ケンブリッジ大学のジョン・ガードン卿が一緒に受賞。受賞理由は「 for the discovery that mature cells can be reprogrammed to become pluripotent （多能性を持つ状態へと、成熟した細胞（分化細胞）を初期化できることを発見したことについて）」。
▼そのうち取るだろうとは思っていたけど、もっと何年も後のことだろうと思っていたので驚いた。山中教授本人も言っていたが、まだiPS細胞は臨床では役に立つものにはなっていない。だが、応用はおいといても、既に基礎研究として十分にインパクトを与えており、受賞価値があるという判断だったようだ。

米Butamax Advanced Biofuels社は2012年9月25日、米特許商標局（USPTO）がButamax社の特許8,273,558番（「558」特許）を認めたと発表した。「558」特許の技術は、バイオ燃料市場や他の市場向けに供給するバイオブタノールの商業規模での大量生産を可能にする道筋をカバーするものであるという。
