国立成育医療研究センターや昭和大学などで計画中の、米Sequenom社の「MaterniT21 PLUS test」による妊婦の血液を用いた胎児の染色体異常検査が、2012年10月25日、東京都新宿区で開催中の日本人類遺伝学会のシンポジウムで議論された。シーケンス技術を用いる染色体異常の検査は、海外では2011年以降複数が商業化されている（表参照）。
