農業生物資源研究所は、野外の水田に植えたイネ（品種は日本晴と農林8号）の葉の遺伝子発現を、田植えから稲穂が付くまでの全過程にわたって網羅的に解析した。得られたデータは気象条件のデータと結合させ、気候によって変わるイネの遺伝子発現を予測するモデルを構築することに成功した。同研究所植物生産生理機能研究ユニットの井澤毅上級研究員、農業生物先端ゲノム研究センターゲノムリソースユニットの長村吉晃ユニット長らによる研究成果で、2012年12月７日にCell誌オンライン版に発表した。

科学技術振興機構（JST）は2012年12月6日、復興促進プログラム（マッチング促進）の新規課題の採択（第2回）で、31件を決定したことを発表した。31件のうち、ライフサイエンス分野が12件ある。12件のうち年200万円から1000万円のタイプ1が5件、年1000万円から2000万円のタイプ2が7件で、支援期間は最長3年だ。以下にバイオテクノロジーと関係が深いとみることができる11件の概要を掲載する。北里大学、東京海洋大学、岩手大学、東京理科大学、岩手大学、東北大学、福島医科大学、東京農工大学、滋賀医科大学に所属する研究者が研究責任者を務める。マッチング促進の2012年度の予算は20億3600万円。
