しょうゆは、健康に好ましい作用を期待して摂取される特定保健用食品（トクホ）として相応しい食品かどうか、という議論がようやく決着した。2012年に大ヒット商品を生み出したコーラに続き、しょうゆでも、近くトクホ表示が許可される見通しとなった。トクホ表示許可が申請されているのは、血圧が高めに人に適するしょうゆ。卓上用パッケージと調理用パッケージの両方について表示内容が検討され、トクホ許可表示のうち「摂取上の注意」の表示をより明確化するという条件を付けて認められた。

世界トップレベル研究拠点プログラム（WPI）拠点である九州大学カーボンニュートラル・エネルギー国際研究所/工学研究院の小江誠司教授らは総合科学研究機構、茨城大学との共同研究により、ニッケル-鉄ヒドロゲナーゼを模範として、同様の酵素活性を発揮する新しいニッケル-鉄触媒を開発した。ニッケル-鉄ヒドロゲナーゼによる水素活性化のメカニズムの解明や、水素エネルギー利用技術の発展に寄与する成果だ。米Science誌オンライン版で2013年2月7日（米東部時刻）に発表する。
