理化学研究所の研究チームは、マウスのクローニングを繰り返し実施することで、1匹のマウスから598匹のクローンマウスを作り出すことに成功した。理研発生・再生科学総合研究センター、ゲノム・リプログラミング研究チームの若山照彦チームリーダー(現 山梨大学生命環境学部教授)、東京医科歯科大難治疾患研究所の幸田尚准教授、石野史敏教授らの共同研究グループによる成果。2013年3月8日にCell Stem Cell誌に論文発表し、クローンマウスの写真は同誌の表紙を飾った(写真)。論文の筆頭著者は若山清香研究員だ。
