中国で鳥インフルエンザH7N9型ウイルスの人への感染が確認されました。3月31日に3人、4月2日に4人の感染が明らかにされ、7人のうち2人は死亡しています。これらの感染者への濃厚接触者にはこれまでのところ異常は確認されておらず、確認されたウイルスがヒト−ヒト感染の能力を持っているかはまだ不明です。

米農務省（USDA）の全国農業統計サービス（NASS：National Agricultural Statistics Service）は2013年3月28日、「Prospective Plantings」レポートをリリース、米国の農家は2012年の歴史的な干ばつによる作物への悪影響を乗り越えるという固い決意をもち、2013年にはトウモロコシとダイズを合わせた作付面積が1億7440万エーカーという記録的な数字になると予測した。トウモロコシは1936年以来最大の作付面積となり、ダイズは記録上4番目に高い作付面積となる。
