情報・システム研究機構国立遺伝学研究所分子遺伝研究部門の深川竜郎教授らは、ニワトリの培養細胞であるDT40細胞を用いて染色体を人工的に改変し、特定の条件でのみセントロメア領域を欠失させる実験系を開発し、ネオセントロメアを高効率で作製することに成功した。2013年3月25日に発行予定の米Developmental Cell誌で発表する。がんの原因と成る染色体不全に重要な基礎知識を与える研究成果であり、分子生物学の基本的な技術として役立ちそうだ。
