科学技術振興機構（JST）戦略的創造研究推進事業ERATO型研究「東山ライブホロニクスプロジェクト」（2010年から2015年まで）の研究総括を務めている名古屋大学WPIトランスフォーマティブ生命分子研究所の東山哲也教授と丸山大輔研究員らは、被子植物が花粉管の誘引を停止する仕組みを発見した。1本の花粉管を通じて卵細胞が受精して胚になり、中央細胞が受精して胚乳になるという被子植物特有の重複受精を、人為的に制御できることをシロイヌナズナで示し、新しい雑種を作出する技術への応用に道を開いた。2013年5月13日（米国東部時刻）に米Developmental Cell誌（インパクトファクター14.030）のオンライン速報版で発表する。

先週はまあびっくりするような事件が起こりました。まずマンチェスターユナイテッドの不動の監督とおもわれていたファーガソン監督の突然の引退。これが香川先取にとって吉と出るか？凶と出るか？まだよく分かりませんが、ポジションがかぶるルーニー選手が移籍を希望しているという報道もあり、暫くは目が離せない状況です。また、錦織選手がとうとうテニスの皇帝、フェデラーを破りました。今月末から開始される全仏選手権ローランギャロスの前哨戦であるマドリード選手権の準々決勝の出来事です。すわ、テニス界でも下克上が起こったか？と思いましたが、翌日、格下に選手に敗れる始末で、まだまだトップ１０に入るには、研鑽を重ねる必要があります。しかし、全仏には期待できそうな雰囲気となってきました。
