理化学研究所脳科学総合研究センター（理研BSI）情動情報連携研究チームの岡ノ谷一夫チームリーダーと川上愛客員研究員（JST ERATO岡ノ谷情動情報プロジェクト研究員）、東京藝術大学美術学部の古川聖教授らは、悲しい音楽は悲しみだけでなくロマンチックな感情をも聴き手にもたらすことを実証した成果を、スイス発のオープンアクセスジャーナルであるFrontiers in Psychology誌で2013年5月23日（日本時刻5月24日）付けで発表した。この論文は、Frontiers誌のメディアプロモーションの対象に選ばれた。
