シンガポール国立心臓病センター（NHCS）は、2013年9月17日、遺伝性QT延長症候群2（LQTS2）患者由来のiPS細胞を作製、それらを心筋細胞に分化させて疾病モデルとして利用し、この疾患の発症機序を分析、さらに治療薬候補を選出することに成功したと発表した。概要は、欧州心臓学会（ESC）2013で9月1日に、NHCSのAshishi Mehta氏によりポスター発表された。

米国立衛生研究所（NIH）は2013年9月18日、アルツハイマー病の発症予防を目的とする有望な治療薬の臨床試験と新治療の生物学的標的を検証する研究に約4500万ドルを拠出すると発表した。画期的な新研究を支援するこのイニシアティブは、アルツハイマー病の有効な治療の開発を目指す集中的な国家的取り組みの一環として行われる。

マンダム技術開発センターは、老化初期の男性に生じる体臭の主原因をジアセチルと特定し、フラボノイドを含む数種の植物エキスが、皮膚常在菌によるジアセチル産生を効果的に抑制することを見いだした。広島市で開かれている第65回日本生物工学会大会で2013年9月19日に発表した。
