米Massachusetts工科大学(MIT)は2013年10月9日、Sloan School of ManagementのChristopher Knittel教授と米California大学Davis校のAaron Smith准教授が共同執筆した、ガソリン価格はエタノールの含有量によって本質に影響を受けないとする論文がIAEE(International Association for Energy Economics)発行のEnergy誌に掲載されると発表した。この研究は過去数年間にわたって広く流布していた、エタノールを広範囲に使用するとガソリンの卸売コストを1ガロン当たり0.89ドルから1.09ドル引き下げるという見解に対して反証を示した(関連記事)。
