米Washington University、St. Louis校、医学部の研究チームは2013年10月13日、がんやその他の疾患に関連する数千の遺伝子と遺伝子標的薬をマッチングする大規模なオンライン・データベースを作成したと発表した。このデータベースには、米食品医薬品局（FDA）に承認された薬剤のみならず、臨床試験中の薬剤や開発パイプラインに入ったばかりの薬剤の情報も含まれる。

米Solazyme社は2013年9月25日、特注の藻類オイル「Solazyme Tailored Algal Oil」を英オランダUnilever社に商業レベルで供給する契約を初めて締結したと発表した（関連記事1）。両社は過去5年間さまざまなプロジェクトを共同で遂行、数々の成功を積み重ねてきて、今回最初の供給契約の締結に至った。この供給契約はSolazyme社とUnilever社が共同で開発した特別仕様の藻類由来オイルの最初の契約となり、当初は少なくとも1万tのオイルを供給することになっている。

東京理科大学理工学部応用生物科学科の松永幸大准教授らは、チミジンアナログを含む水溶液中で植物を生育することにより、細胞分裂や細胞伸長している細胞だけを光らせる手法を開発し、細胞分裂から細胞伸長へ転換する領域に境界細胞を存在することを見いだした。英Scientific Reports誌で2013年10月14日に発表した。
