塩野義製薬の2013年度上期決算は最高益を更新、手代木社長「クレストールの特許切れ対策進む」

塩野義製薬は2013年10月31日、2013年度の上期の決算説明会を開催した。業績は増収、各利益は上期実績として過去最高益を更新した。パイプラインでは、2013年6月に発売となった閉経後膣萎縮症治療薬「Osphena」（オスペミフェン）は、80％以上の民間保険の償還リストに掲載されるなど、順調に市場導入されていることが説明された。自社創製品のHIV感染症治療薬ドルテグラビル（S/GSK1349572）も、米食品医薬品局（FDA）の承認を取得するなど、クレストールの特許期間満了に向けての対策が着実に進んでいることを印象付けた。

米Biotechnology Industry Organization（BIO）と米Advanced Ethanol Council（AEC）は2013年10月29日、米環境保護庁（EPA）が検討している2014年の再生可能燃料基準（RFS）の原案について懸念を表わした書簡を、オバマ大統領宛てに送付したと発表した。EPAのRFS原案は2013年よりも低いものとなっており、BIOとAECはEPAに対し、これまでの方針を堅持してデータに基づいた方法でRFS義務量を決定するよう求めている。この書簡はBIOとAECのほか、米DuPont社、米Monsanto社、デンマークNovozymes社、米Solazymes社、米Verenium社など、BIOに加盟する37社も名を連ねている。

米Fidelity Biosciences社と米REGENX Biosciences社は2013年10月31日、稀少疾患領域の新規遺伝子治療の開発に特化したDimension Therapeutics社を設立したと発表した。Dimension社は血友病に対するリード候補を手始めとして、稀少疾患に用いる遺伝子治療プログラム基盤の臨床開発を進め、アデノ随伴ウイルス（AAV）治療薬エンジンの構築に重点的に取り組む方針だ。同社はFidelity社主導で行われた金額非公開のシリーズAファイナンスも完了しているという。
