イタリアBeta Renewables社は2013年10月9日、非食用バイオマスからバイオエタノールを生産する世界初の商業規模バイオリファイナリーがイタリアCrescentinoで正式にオープンしたと発表した。開所式典にはFlavio Zanonato経済発展大臣やCrescentino市長など地元自治体の関係者も参列した。CrescentinoバイオリファイナリーはBeta Renewables社が所有するもので、同社はイタリアMossi Ghisolfi Group傘下のエンジニアリング企業Biochemtex社と米ファンドTexas Pacific Group(TPG)、およびデンマークNovozymes社とのジョイントベンチャー企業である。
