米California大学San Diego校付属のScripps Institution of Oceanography（Scripps海洋学研究所）は2013年11月20日、研究所のCenter for Marine Biotechnology and Biomedicineの研究チームが、海洋性藻類によるバイオ燃料の生産性を大幅に増強する方法を開発したと発表した。

かずさDNA研究所と千葉県農林総合研究センター、九州大学、香川大学、中国南山植物園の研究チームは、食用のイチゴと野生のイチゴのゲノム解読に成功したと2013年11月27日にDNA Research誌に発表した。食用イチゴはゲノムセットが8組ある8倍体で、ゲノム解読が困難だったが、複数ゲノムを1つにまとめる解析法を新しく開発し、倍数性ゲノムにも対応できるようにした。

大阪大学大学院医学系研究科感染免疫医学講座の竹田潔教授と西村潤一助教、同研究科外科学講座の森正樹教授らは、ヒト大腸の粘膜に存在する自然免疫細胞の一部が炎症性T細胞（Th17細胞）の分化を誘導する仕組みを解明し、クローン病でこの自然免疫細胞が異常に活性化してTh17細胞を過剰に誘導する能力を有していることを見いだした。米Gastroenterology誌2013年12月号（インパクトファクター12.821）でこの成果を発表する。
