京都大学とカゴメは、2013年12月11日、トマトの全成分解析を目的に「『カゴメ』トマト・ディスカバリーズ」講座を2014年1月1日から開設すると発表した。トマトに含まれると推定される、5000種類の代謝物を全てデータベース化し、機能性食品の開発に用いるのが目標だ。同講座の特任教授には、かずさDNA研究所の柴田大輔・産業基盤開発部長（写真）が兼任で着任する。柴田部長は、2012年にかずさDNA研究所をはじめとする国際コンソーシアムが結果を発表したトマト全ゲノム解析プロジェクト（関連記事1）のまとめ役を務めている。
