読者の皆様、明けましておめでとうございます。2014年も変わらずお付き合いください。毎年恒例、バイオテクノロジー業界のキーパーソンによる「新春展望」を1月1日から2日にかけて掲載します。特設サイトをご覧ください。

新春展望2014、アンチバイオテックとプロバイオテックの新天地へ  from 日経バイオテクONLINE  (2014-1-1 0:00)

バイオ産業をグローバルな視点で見れば、シンガポールから見た方が、アジアの状況が良く見えます。残念ながら、日本はアジアのバイオの中心には位置せず、多くのグローバル企業のエリア拠点（経営決定権）が日本以外の国に移動しています。それには、幾つかの理由があると思いますが、日本のバイオ環境のインフラをどう上手く活用するかを考えると日本においても、まだまだビジネスチャンスが見出せます。それには、アカデミアの存在は大きく、スタンフォード大学やハーバード大学で運用されているオープンイノベーションを日本国内のアカデミアでも活用することと考えます。

歴史をひもとくまでもなく、技術を基礎とした産業の勃興には必ずその技術のさらに基礎となる研究がそれに先立って存在している。この基礎研究の発展が技術を生み、そして産業の勃興につながる。これは今までエレクトロニクス産業を始めほとんどの技術を基礎とする産業の勃興の鉄則であるといえる。ここで敢えて技術を基礎とする産業の勃興と申したが、基礎研究の定義をやや広げるとすべての産業の勃興に当てはまるのではないか。問題は基礎研究、技術の成熟から何時、実際に新しい産業がテイクオフするかの見極めであろう。この点、振り返ってみると、いわゆるバイオブームは今まで何回も訪れた。

皆様、新年おめでとうございます。今年もどうぞよろしくお願い申し上げます。 　生命科学研究における情報科学の活用−バイオインフォマティクス−は、過去15年ほどの間に急速に拡大してきました。ゲノム解析・オミックス・タンパク質解析・創薬などの面で、またシステムバイオロジー・合成バイオロジーの面で、更に先端計測制御・可視化技術の面で、それぞれに15年ほど前には考えられないレベルに発展してきました。 　ここでは更に新しい動きとして、参加型サイエンスと社会データの活用のことをご紹介いたしましょう。いずれも最近のICT（情報通信技術）の進歩によるものです。
