昨年12月24日、政府は2014年度予算案を閣議決定した。医療分野で注目されているのが、来年度末に創設される日本医療研究開発機構（仮称）、いわゆる日本版NIHに1215億円（対前年度比20.1％増）が計上されたことだ。インハウス研究（各省の独法などで行う直轄研究）も対前年度3.74％増の740億円であり、科学技術予算全体が停滞気味にある中で、政権としての力の入れようがうかがえる。
