理化学研究所の生命システム研究センター（理研QBiC）合成生物学研究グループと発生・再生科学総合研究センター（理研CDB）システムバイオロジー研究プロジェクトの上田泰己グループディレクター（兼プロジェクトリーダー）らは、脳全体の遺伝子の働きやネットワーク構造を3次元データとして取得し、サンプル間で定量的に比較するための基盤技術「CUBIC」を開発し、成体のマウスと小型のサルの脳（マウス脳の約10倍の大きさ）を透明化し、1細胞解像度で観察することに成功した。上田GDと洲崎悦生基礎科学特別研究員（当時）、田井中一貴研究員（当時）、Dimitri Perrin国際特別研究員らが、米Cell誌2014年4月24日号で発表する。CUBIC技術は、生物学だけでなく医学分野においても、大きく貢献すると期待できる。
