Wmの憂鬱、訂正、突如浮上したiPS細胞臨床研究の遅延の可能性【日経バイオテクONLINE Vol.2102】

バイオ関連の重要ニュースが目白押しですが、最も大きな衝撃は理化学研究所再生・発生科学総合研究センター（CDB）から来ました。しかし、同研究所の笹井副センター長の傷ましい自殺ではなく、今月にも患者に移植されるはずだったiPS細胞由来の網膜色素上皮細胞シートの臨床研究（細胞移植）が遅れる、最悪の場合、中断される可能性が出てきたことです。私の意見は真に安全性に影響するデータを収集し、慎重の上にも慎重に検討した上で、iPS細胞の臨床研究を果断に進めるべきであり、研究者の功名心や世界との競争より、患者の安全を優先するのが、日本人の総意であると思っています。
有料記事の本文中に「動物実験で造腫瘍性などのリスクが発覚したため」と記述いたしましたが、追加取材でそうした事実はなく、患者の線維芽細胞とそれから由来したiPS細胞の全ゲノム解析と全メチローム解析が要求されたため、臨床研究（細胞移植）が遅延する可能性が出てきた、と訂正いたします。
