東京大学の創薬オープンイノベーションセンターと同大学院薬学系研究科の長野哲雄名誉教授、同大学院理学系研究科の濡木理教授、東北大学大学院薬学研究科の青木淳賢教授らは、創薬の共同研究を通じて得られた成果の1つを、慢性腎臓病等の治療薬の開発につながるリード化合物として塩野義製薬に導出したと、2014年9月18日に発表した。塩野義は、このリード化合物に関する構造最適化研究を既に開始し、精力的に進めているという。
