Liquid Light社、シリーズBラウンドを完了、1500万ドルの資金を調達  from 日経バイオテクONLINE  (2014-9-21 9:00)

米Liquid Light社は2014年9月11日、1500万ドルのシリーズB資金調達ラウンドを完了したと発表した。新規投資家として再生可能燃料や化学品分野への投資に重点を置いているベンチャーキャピタルのSustainable Conversion Venturesなどが参加した。既存投資家であるVantagePoint Capital Partners、BP Ventures、Chrysalix Energy Venture Capital、およびOsage University Partnersのベンチャーキャピタルもこの資金調達ラウンドに参加した。この資金調達によりLiquid Light社の企業価値は著しく増加したという。

農業生物資源研究所（生物研、NIAS）動物科学研究領域動物生体防御研究ユニットの竹澤俊明上級研究員らは、東京大学医学部附属病院の眼科・視覚矯正科の横尾誠一特任研究員（ティッシュ・エンジニアリング部角膜再生プロジェクトのプロジェクトリーダーを兼任）と角膜移植部の山上聡准教授らと共同で、ブタのアテロコラーゲンと無血清培養液により、透明性に優れた半球面形状の医療用新素材「ビトリゲル」を作製した。ウサギの眼への移植実験で炎症などを起こさずに透明性を維持して良好に定着し、この新素材を足場としてヒト角膜内皮細胞を培養して角膜内皮細胞を構築できることを見いだした。この成果の論文発表について、2014年9月19日に生物研がプレスリリースを出した。
