米エネルギー省(DOE)は2014年9月30日、オバマ大統領のあらゆるエネルギー資源を活用するという「包括的アプローチ・エネルギー戦略」(All-of-the-Above Energy Strategy)に基づき、藻類バイオ燃料のコストを2019年までにガソリン1ガロン当り(gge:gasoline gallon equivalent)に換算して5ドル($5/gge)未満にまで引き下げるため、最大で2500万ドルの資金提供を行うと発表した。
