京都大学iPS細胞研究所(CiRA)初期化機構研究部門の季紅梅大学院生と堀田秋津主任研究員・助教(科学技術振興機構の戦略的創造研究推進事業「さきがけ」研究員)らは、デュシェンヌ型筋ジストロフィー(DMD)の患者から作製したiPS細胞において、ゲノム編集技術のTALENやCRISPR/Cas9システムを用いて、DMDの原因遺伝子であるジストロフィンを修復することに成功した。DMDの遺伝子治療につながるこの成果を、国際幹細胞学会(ISSCR)のStem Cell Reports誌(Elsevir社発行)で2014年11月26日正午(米東部時刻)に発表した。
