岩手大の吉川教授、RNAウイルスで開花/世代促進とエピゲノム育種

30年ほど前に日本のリンゴ樹木から発見されたRNAウイルスが、植物の遺伝子機能解析やエピゲノム育種に、革新をもたらしている。岩手大学農学部の吉川信幸教授（農学生命課程）らは、この研究成果の一部を、2015年3月28日から31日まで明治大学駿河台キャンパス（東京・千代田）で開催される日本植物病理学会創立100周年記念大会で発表する。次いで、6月に盛岡市で開催される第23回果樹ウイルス性病害の国際会議（ICVF 2015 Morioka）で吉川教授が一連の成果を発表する。ICVFの日本での開催は今回が初めて。会期は6月7日から12日までで、吉川教授が開催責任者/運営委員長を務める。2014年秋から始まった内閣府のSIP（戦略的イノベーション創造プログラム）が、この革新技術の実用化を後押ししている。

今日（2015年3月6日）は、岩手大学で開催されている第8回ダイズ研究会を取材しました。今日は、旭松食品、太子食品工業、タカノフーズ、佐藤政行種苗、理化学研究所、北海道大学、農業生物資源研究所、宮崎大学、東北大学などの発表がありました。メタボロームやRNAサイレンシング、突然変異体ライブラリーの作出とスクリーニングシステムの開発など、盛りだくさんでした。参加者数は120人とのことです。企業からは大塚製薬や花王も参加しています。明日土曜日も、注目発表が相次ぎます。

大塚製薬と共同で眼科領域の経口薬を開発している米Acucela社で、現経営陣と現会長が対立する事態が起きています。同社は、2015年1月1日付けで、ファウンダーの窪田良氏からCOOを務めているBrian O'Callaghan氏へCEOが交代。1月末に、株主であるSBIホールディングスが窪田氏を除く、現取締役の解任などを株主提案しました。
