多能性幹細胞の培養では、未分化を維持した細胞を大量に増殖させることが重要であるため、培養中に分化した細胞を判別して除去する必要がある。浜松ホトニクスは、同社の位相差顕微鏡の技術を利用して、非侵襲で未分化のコロニーと分化したコロニーを判別する方法を研究している。同社システム事業・設計部の水口義則グループ長と中央研究所の山内豊彦氏が2015年4月16日、同社が開発中の技術について本誌に語った。

米LanzaTech社は2015年4月22日、台湾最大の鉄鋼メーカーである中国鋼鉄社（China Steel Corporation：CSC）の取締役会がLanzaTech社の二酸化炭素リサイクル技術を使った商業スケールのエタノール生産施設建設プロジェクトに14億台湾ドル（4600万ドル）の資金を投下することを正式に承認したと発表した。この決定は、台湾・高雄にあるWhite Biotech社において実施された実証プラントを使った試験生産において、製鋼工場から排出される二酸化炭素ガスを使ってエタノールを生産するLanzaTech社の炭素リサイクルプラットフォーム技術が実証されたことによる。
