総合マーケティングビジネスの富士経済（東京・中央、溝口正夫社長）は、生物由来有用成分・素材40品目の市場に関する調査結果を、2015年6月18日に発表した。2015年4月から消費者庁が届け出の受付を開始した機能性表示食品の制度によって注目されており、これらの有用成分・素材が配合された最終製品の市場拡大も想定され、新たなステージに突入すると見られる、と分析している。

キリンが、他社の特定保健用食品（トクホ）で表示が許可されている「保健の用途」よりも1つ多くの健康機能を表示する「機能性表示食品」で攻勢をかけている。2015年6月16日に麒麟麦酒が発売した機能性表示食品「パーフェクトフリー」の都内のスーパーにおける販売価格（税別）は1本（350mL入り）が100円から110円程度。パーフェクトフリーと同じく、難消化性デキストリンを配合したノンアルコールビールテイスト清涼飲料で、5月26日に発売されたサッポロビールの特定保健用食品（トクホ）「SAPPORO＋（サッポロプラス）」が1本147円（税別）で売られているのに比べ、40円ほど安い。店頭で確認できたパーフェクトフリーの最安値は98円。これらの店舗のうち「特売」と明記しているのは一部に過ぎない。
