まだGW真最中ですから、皆さんもきっとリゾート気分であるはず。その弛緩した頭脳にドスンと刺激を与えるニュースを本日はお届けいたしましょう。バイオテクノロジーは猛烈な勢いで進展しており。油断すると振り落とされてしまいます。さて、第3世代のゲノム編集技術であるCRISPR-Cas9の登場によって、DNAゲノムを持つほとんどの生物をほぼ自由自在に遺伝子操作できるようになりましたが、問題は多細胞生物をゲノム編集した場合に、どうしてもゲノム編集できた細胞とできなかった細胞のキメラになってしまうことです。このため、細胞をバラバラにしてクローニングしたり、薬剤標識遺伝子で選別したり、また生じた個体を遺伝子解析するなど、まるで古典的な遺伝子操作のような手間がどうしてもかかるのが大きな問題でした。ゲノム編集、いうほど簡単ではなかったのです。しかし、このたび、完全にこのキメラの問題を解決する技術突破が起こりました。まるでコロンブスの卵のような、この技術を使えば、遺伝的背景のそろった近交系のマウスをゲノム編集するだけで、交配する必要なくノックアウト・マウス群を誕生させることができるのです。つまり革命的に遺伝子機能解析 ...

第25回さつきサロン夜の部は、 5月12日(木) に開催となります。
今回は、最近ジャズシンガーとしてご活躍の、中村倫子さん(1997年農学部卒業)をお招きして、お話をうかがいます。
テーマ『皆様あっての私でございます』
プロフィール：ジャズシンガー・会社員・獣医師
1971年出生。高校卒業まで鹿児島で桜島と共に過ごし、1990年大学入学で上京。
理科?類から教養学部に進学したが単位不足で留年、翌年に農学部獣医学科進学。
動物実験に馴染めず、臨床系の研究室に在籍してVeterinary Medical Centerで内科診療しながら、卒論テーマが鳥類の雌雄鑑別であったためいろいろな動物園・水族館と接触。
大学院に進み、内科らしい「造血器系腫瘍の抗癌剤耐性獲得」をテーマに研究しつつ、変わらず診療に参加。このころにジャズシンガーになりたいと思い立ち、ボイストレーニングに通い始める。水族館仲間繋がりでジャズギタリストとデュオ結成し、ゼロから歌活動をスタートした。
博士号を温情でいただき、やっと社会人デビュー。研究生OBの動物病院で働き始めるも勤務時間が長すぎてボイトレとの併行に苦労しながらもライブ活動するようになった。
