長崎大学と東芝メディカルシステムズは2016年8月3日、熱帯感染症や新興・再興感染症を対象とした遺伝子検査システムの開発に向けた共同研究を開始すると発表した。長崎大学 熱帯医学研究所内に「東芝メディカルMSラボ（Molecular Solution Laboratory）」を設置。東芝メディカルはこの取り組みを通じ、熱帯感染症診断システムに本格参入する。
