理化学研究所と神戸市立医療センター中央市民病院、大阪大学、京都大学iPS細胞研究所（CiRA）は、滲出型加齢黄斑変性に対するiPS細胞由来網膜色素上皮（RPE）細胞移植の臨床研究を共同で実施する協定を2016年5月30日に締結した。2016年6月6日、4機関は記者会見を開催し、実施する3本の臨床研究の内容などについて説明。まずは他家の懸濁液を利用した臨床研究を先行して開始する。

さて、今週月曜日に日経バイオテクプロフェッショナルセミナー「動き出したエクソソーム創薬」を開催しました。かつては細胞内で不要になった核酸や蛋白質などを排出する“ごみの運搬車”と考えられていたエクソソームですが、その中にマイクロRNAを含むことが見いだされ、細胞間のコミュニケーションなどに大きな役割を果たしていると考えられるようになり、世界各地で研究が急ピッチで進展しています。セミナーではそんなエクソソームの臨床応用を視野に入れた研究の最前線について、講師の先生に紹介いただくとともに、ディスカッションを通して診断や創薬への応用の可能性や課題などを認識することができました。

第16回蛋白質科学会でクライオ電顕の話題相次ぐ  from 日経バイオテクONLINE  (2016-6-8 1:00)

第16回日本蛋白質科学会年会が2016年6月7日、福岡国際会議場（福岡市博多区）で開幕した。九州大学生体防御医学研究所の神田大輔教授が年会長を務めている。初日にメインホールで開催されたワークショップの話題はクライオ電子顕微鏡（クライオ電顕、Cryo-EM）。ここ数年の特に検出器の技術革新により、クライオ電顕で構造を解明できる蛋白質の解像度は2.0オングストロームを超える高解像度を実現した。Cell誌2016年5月26日号で米国立衛生研究所（NIH）米国立癌研究所（NCI）のAlan Merk博士らが発表したクライオ電顕の論文「Breaking Cryo-EM Resolution Barriers to Facilitate Drug Discovery」に掲載された図が、相次ぎ紹介された。
