先端医療振興財団（本庶佑理事長）は2016年10月12日、米サンディエゴのバイオ関連企業支援組織であるBIOCOM（Joe Panetta会長兼CEO）と、今後の相互の協力関係を主な内容とする覚書（MOU）を締結。BioJapan2016の会場で本庶理事長と Panetta会長兼CEOによる調印式を行った。

米Sarepta Therapeutics社は2016年10月4日、英Summit Therapeutics社のデュシェンヌ型筋ジストロフィー（DMD）対象開発候補パイプラインの欧州における独占的ライセンスと共同開発の契約を締結したと発表した。Summit社のDMD治療薬候補ezutromid（SMT C1100）を含むユートロフィン修飾薬について、Sarepta社は欧州、ならびにトルコ、旧ソ連独立国家共同体（CIS）のライセンスを取得した。また、中南米ライセンスのオプション権も取得し、Summit社はこれらを除く全ての国・地域における商業化権を保有する。

2016年10月6日から8日まで横浜市で開催された第75回日本癌学会学術総会の一般口演「浸潤モデルとエクソソーム」で、国立がん研究センター分子細胞治療研究分野の横井暁がん研究特別研究員が卵巣癌の腹膜転移にエクソソームが関係するメカニズムを解明した研究成果を発表した。

米Bristol-Myers Squibb（BMS）社は2016年10月9日、転移性腎細胞癌（mRCC）患者を対象に「オプジーボ」（ニボルマブ）と「ヤーボイ」（イピリムマブ）を併用投与するフェーズI（CheckMate-016、NCT01472081）の最新中間結果を発表した。オプジーボ＋ヤーボイの2用量の併用群を2年近く追跡し、奏効率は両群いずれも40.4％で確定した。主要評価項目である安全性と忍容性はこれまでの試験報告と同様であった。CheckMate-016のデータは、2016年10月にデンマークで開催された欧州臨床腫瘍学会（ESMO）で発表された。
