米Omeros社は2016年10月17日、腎障害の治療としてOMS721を評価している非盲検のフェーズIIでポジティブなデータが得られたと発表した。OMS721は、同社が開発中のマンナン結合レクチンセリンプロテアーゼ2（MASP-2）を標的とするヒトモノクローナル抗体。MASP-2は補体系のレクチン経路におけるエフェクター酵素である。

米Biogen社の日本法人であるバイオジェン・ジャパン（東京・中央）が、アルツハイマー病治療薬のaducanumabの日本国内におけるフェーズIII試験を開始した。同社は国内の医療機関と共同で臨床試験の準備を進めているが、院内倫理委員会による審査、承認手続きを終えた医療機関において、今月から患者への投与が始まったもの。これはBiogen社が進める国際共同試験であるENGAGE試験とEMERGE試験の一環（いずれもフェーズIII）。早期のアルツハイマー病かその前段階に当たる軽度認知障害（MCI）の患者を対象にしている。

ナノキャリアは2016年10月21日、「NC-6300」（エピルビシンミセル）の共同開発契約について興和から解約の申し出を受けたと発表した。6カ月後以内に契約を終了し、今後はナノキャリアが単独で開発を進める。

前回記した内容と重複するが、ミコフェノール酸の免疫抑制作用に関して、マウスへの皮膚移植実験の際にその投与時期を変えて効果発現との関係を調べ、免疫が既に成立した時期から投与を始めても拒絶反応が抑制されることを見いだした。つまり、ミコフェノール酸は免疫の誘導を抑制する作用の他に、既に成立した免疫反応によって誘起される炎症、あるいはアレルギー反応を抑制することが示唆されたのである。移植前から薬物を投与した場合には、免疫反応の阻害に伴い拒絶反応が抑制されるのは当然だが、免疫が成立した後に投与を始めても拒絶反応が抑制されというのは予想外の結果だった。
