ナチュラルキラーT（NKT）細胞は、近年研究開発が活発化している癌免疫療法の、一翼を担う可能性が期待されている細胞だ。理化学研究所統合生命医科学研究センター免疫細胞治療研究チームの藤井眞一郎チームリーダー、免疫器官形成研究グループの古関明彦グループディレクターらは、iPS細胞からNKT細胞を分化誘導し、その抗腫瘍効果をin vivoで確認。研究成果は、2016年8月1日に米Stem Cells誌オンライン版に掲載された。2016年9月20日、藤井氏、古関氏が本誌の取材に応じた。
