エーザイは2017年5月、肥満症治療薬の塩酸ロルカセリンの開発および販売に関する全ての権利を米Arena Pharmaceuticals社から取得したことを発表した。ただし、同剤の売り上げは低迷しているのが現状だ。そのような状況で、なぜ、エーザイが世界の権利を取得したのか。その意味を考えてみたい。
