UMNファーマは、2017年1月31日、日本で共同開発していた細胞培養インフルエンザワクチン、UMN-0502とUMN-0501について、アステラス製薬が全ての権利をUMNファーマに返還したため国内でのインフルエンザワクチン供給事業が困難になったとして、特別損失を計上すると発表した（関連記事1、関連記事2）。合わせて同日、IHIとの協業に関する基本協定書を解約し、連結子会社であるUNIGEN（秋田県秋田市、小寺淳一社長）の発行済普通株式の全株をアピ（岐阜県岐阜市、野々垣孝彦）に譲渡すると発表した。同日、IHIも保有していたUNIGENの発行済普通株式の全株をアピに譲渡すると発表しており、UNIGENが手掛けるバイオ医薬品の受託製造事業はアピに引き継がれることになった。
