米国立衛生研究所（NIH）は、2017年2月2日、ヒトや動物の遺伝子カタログを作製するENCODE（Encyclopedia of DNA Elements）プロジェクトのさらなる拡大を計画していると発表した。

再発寛解型の多発性硬化症（MS）患者に、高用量化学療法を行い、患者自身から採取しておいた末梢血幹細胞を移植すると、5年後まで持続する寛解を誘導できる可能性が示された。国立衛生研究所（NIH）の国立アレルギー感染症研究所（NIAID）から資金を得、Immune Tolerance Network（ITN）によって行われたフェーズII ＨALT-MS試験の結果は、Neurology誌電子版に17年2月1日に報告された。

1986年10月、BSF2(IL6の旧呼称)アンタゴニストの探索を目的とした共同研究契約が締結された。大阪大ではIL6受容体遺伝子のクローニング、中外ではIL6と疾患の関連性を探る研究と明確な役割分担で共同研究が始まった。IL6のcDNAがクローニングされてからわずか数カ月という極めて急速な展開であった。
